A personal movie catalogue for tracking watched films with their related actors and genres, featuring popularity rankings and ratings.
Problem
Personal film history usually ends up in scattered lists, notes, and streaming “continue watching” rows. There’s no single place that owns your catalogue — titles you’ve actually watched, linked to actors and genres, with rankings you care about rather than a studio-owned watchlist.
Approach
Built MyMovieDB (mmdbstar) as a Remix + React + TypeScript app on MongoDB: Movies, Actors, and Genres as first-class browse surfaces, search, and a “What’s Popular” carousel. Title metadata and imagery pull from TMDB where useful, while the personal catalogue and relationships live in your own data model — with auth so the library stays private to you.
Outcome
Live at mmdbstar.com as a working personal movie database: browse by film, cast, and genre; search the catalogue; and keep rankings/ratings on titles you choose to track. A hands-on showcase of Remix full-stack patterns and relational content modelling in MongoDB.
